Beautiful Lake Maxinkuckee, nestled in north-central Indiana, provides exciting opportunities for three teenage boys in the late 1960s trying to discover what it means to be a man, a responsible adult, and especially, men of faith.  They lock horns with a Chicago mob boss dealing drugs, discovering along the way that courage comes from unexpected resources deep within and that often, doing the right thing costs dearly.  Learning from this traumatic experience, they fall into a second mystery, this time coming up against a shadowy figure who turns out to be an arms dealer.  The cost of that encounter was almost more than the three boys could bear.  Finally, as they enter their senior year of high school, they help local and federal law enforcement capture a pair of very clever jewel thieves, only to find themselves once more in a deadly situation.  Through it all, they learn that manhood is not about age, having a driver’s license, owning a car, excelling in sports, or earning a wage.  Manhood is about doing the right thing, regardless of the cost.  They face a new challenge as they come to grips with this idea.  College looms on the horizon.  Look for the second book in this series, The Men from Maxinkuckee.
